ACNE: Tretinoin for AcneUpdated 2 days ago
Why We Don’t Recommend Tretinoin for Acne-Prone Skin
While Tretinoin is often prescribed for acne, I typically don’t recommend it for these key reasons:
- It’s Inflammatory – Tretinoin can aggravate the skin, making pimples and pustules even worse before they get better.
- Acne-Causing Ingredients – Many Tretinoin cream formulations contain pore-clogging ingredients that can actually contribute to breakouts.
- Harsh on the Skin Barrier – Tretinoin can be overly aggressive, leading to irritation, dryness, and a compromised skin barrier—making your skin more vulnerable to breakouts and sensitivity.
Instead, I recommend gentler, results-driven alternatives that support your skin’s health while effectively treating acne.
