MILIA: How To Treat & PreventUpdated 2 days ago

Milia are small, hard white or yellowish bumps that form when dead skin cells and keratin become trapped under the surface of the skin. They often appear around the eyes, cheeks, and forehead and are typically caused by a compromised skin barrier, buildup of keratinocytes (skin cells), and inconsistent exfoliation.

To treat and prevent milia, follow a routine that gently exfoliates while supporting your skin barrier. Here's what we recommend:

AM Routine:

  1. Cleanse: Start with GlyMed Plus Glycolic Facial Cleanser with 10% Glycolic Acid then follow with Dr. esthé Enzyme Deep Clear Powder Wash to digest away dead skin cells.
  2. Spritz: NeoGenesis Moisturizing Mist o hydrate and calm the skin.
  3. Serum: Hale & Hush Rare Mandelic Serum to gently exfoliate and bring milia to the surface.
  4. Moisturizer: Colorescience Barrier Pro Essential Moisturizer to hydrate and protect.

PM Routine:
Repeat the above steps 1 to 3, moisturize with GlyMed Plus Resurfacing Night Cream to support overnight cellular renewal.

Important Tip: Avoid products containing L-ascorbic acid, a common form of vitamin C that can worsen milia. Instead, choose gentler forms like magnesium ascorbyl phosphate or tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate.

Avoid picking at milia—this can lead to irritation and scarring. With consistency and the right products, milia can be treated and prevented effectively.
