Skin purging is a temporary phase your skin may go through when you start a new product or treatment that increases cell turnover, like exfoliants, retinol, or after a facial. You may see more breakouts as clogged pores come to the surface faster, but this is actually a sign that your skin is beginning to function better.

Think of it as a detox: congestion didn’t happen overnight, and it won’t go away overnight. Purging is your skin speeding up its metabolism, pushing out impurities, and renewing itself. This process typically clears within a few weeks.

Unfortunately, the congestion and dysfunction beneath the skin can’t simply melt away or disappear—they have to come up and out.
